Job Description

The Director of Schools provides management and structure to the Strathcona Christian Academy (SCA) Society while furthering its Vision.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Pastor at Sherwood Park Alliance Church (SPAC), the Director of Schools oversees the day-to-day operations and management of the SCA Society. The Director of Schools has the responsibility of furthering and enhancing the vision of the SCA Society along with the following responsibilities:

  • Overall management and operations of the SCA Society

  • Supporting compliance with governing agreements with SPAC Society and Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS)

  • Representing and promoting SCA and the SCA Society at community events and school events

  • Planning and executing a fund development plan

  • Ensuring a healthy and collaborative relationship between the SCA Society Board (Board), SPAC, SCA staff, parents, and EIPS

  • Working collaboratively with Principals and supporting them in their work to enhance the operation of the SCA Alternative Program

  • Society-related administrative support for Principals

  • Supporting the Society Board

    • Financials

      • Prepare budgets and projections

      • Prepare financial summaries in collaboration with SPAC

      • Ensure fees are collected in a professional and timely fashion

      • Plan and implement fundraising work initiatives

    • Board governance

      • Follow established policies and procedures

      • Recommend, create, and maintain documentation, policies, and procedures as required

    • Create agendas for Board meetings (8-10 times per year) and work collaboratively with all Board members

  • Board members

    • Communications

      • Manage the Society’s website

      • Email newsletters with families and alumni

    • Committee work

      • Assist Board members with committee work

      • Provide administrative support such as gathering information and resources, follow-up, and scheduling

    • Christian programming continuity

  • Community-building — Build a strong school community by planning events, engaging alumni, and welcoming new families.


Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Ability to build trust and maintain effective relationships

  • Visionary leadership

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Relevant post-secondary degree (graduate education preferred)

  • Demonstrated aptitude for fundraising

Additional Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Completion of Abuse Prevention Training

  • Will adhere to the policies and procedures of the Staff Handbook

  • Membership, or working towards Membership, of SPAC
