Job Description

Position Summary

The mission of Prairie College is “to help establish God’s kingdom by equipping and mentoring individuals through biblically integrated education for life and careers that will meet the greatest needs of the world for the glory of God.” This full-time position exists to support the mission of Prairie by providing excellent and relevant teaching in K-6 Education. This position will include leadership and administrative responsibilities as a program director for the newly created Bachelor of Education (pending CAQC approval).

Key DUTIES & Responsibilities:

  • Teach a full-time load of twenty-four credit hours each academic year, with the primary instructional area in education.

  • Serve as program director in the newly created Bachelor of Education program (pending Ministry approval), providing primary leadership in the development of philosophy, rationale, and curriculum.

  • Program director responsibilities are equal to a course load equivalent of 3 credits.

  • Act as primary liaison between Prairie College and Education Alberta.

  • Mentor and disciple students in the Bachelor of Education program.

  • Advise and assist program students in finding career choices.

  • Maintain and establish relationships between Prairie and placement sites.

  • Remain current in academic field through research and scholarship.

  • Participate in Academic Council meetings and responsibilities.

  • Participate in faculty meetings and responsibilities, including committees as assigned.

  • Participate in designated areas of co-curricular life as mutually agreed on with the Academic Dean.


Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mission: Knowledge of and commitment to Prairie’s mission, vision, core values, statement of faith, and Community Covenant.

  • Church: Mature Christian character along with an understanding of and commitment to the local church.

  • Gifting/Calling: Primary vocation is teaching. Evident love for teaching in a post-secondary environment in the field of education. Senses a calling to fulfill this vocation at Prairie.

  • Education: A PhD in education or equivalent.

  • Experience: Two or more years of successful post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

  • Ministry: Significant experience in the field of education at the K-6 level.

  • English Language: Excellent knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including composition and grammar.

  • Team attitude: Must have the ability to work in and contribute to a team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience in Christian post-secondary education.

  • Excellent teaching skills or capacity in a post-secondary classroom setting.

  • Passionate about preparing college students enrolled in a broad span of biblical, ministry and vocational programs for ministry and work.

  • Actively committed to scholarly work and growth.

  • Understanding of academic rigor appropriate to post-secondary education.

  • Broad and deep knowledge of the academic discipline of education, including and understanding of fundamentals of pedagogy and policies related to teaching in Canada.

Position Summary

The Education Assistant (EA) supports students with learning needs (SLN) registered under the Inclusive Education (IE) Program. The EA works closely with classroom teachers, the IE team, and other professionals to provide learning, behavioural, and personal care support that enables each student to succeed in a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers and the IE team to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Learning Support Plans (LSPs), and Behaviour Management Plans (BMPs).

  • Support students in a variety of settings (classroom, pull-out sessions, field trips, and school events).

  • Assist students with personal care, mobility, and communication needs.

  • Implement social skills or behaviour strategies, including the use of visuals, data charts, and reinforcement techniques.

  • Monitor and report student progress to the teacher and IE Campus Case Manager.

  • Communicate daily updates with parents through a communication notebook or as directed.

  • Incorporate recommendations from therapists and consultants, as agreed upon by the school team.

  • Assist teachers with classroom tasks such as preparing materials, bulletin boards, and organizing learning spaces.

  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Maintain a substitute plan (sub-book) for continuity of support during absences.

  • Respond to emergencies and ensure student safety at all times.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Position

We are looking for Inclusive Education (Special Education) Teachers who are certified to teach in BC for the 2025-26 school year who are based in the Lower Mainland! Inclusive Education Case Managers partner with families to design and oversee personalized education and support plans based on each student’s designation and identified needs. They collaborate closely with the IE team to support the academic success and well-being of learners with diverse abilities. For this role, we are seeking teachers with experience in Inclusive or Special Education, Learning Support, or working with a wide range of student needs.

Primarily remote work, looking for remote teachers based in the Lower Mainland. Teachers will be placed with students within their region and expected to conduct home and on-site visits throughout year ~ 0.4-1.0 FTE

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead co-creation of the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) with the IEP team – parents, teacher, Education Assistant (EA), and other necessary professionals – ensuring that goals are relevant to the student’s designation and special needs.

  • Direct and/or coordinate the IEP team throughout the year while ensuring implementation of IEP goals

  • Draft a student budget proposal based on the needs presented in the IEP, including plans for spending the Student Learning Plan (SLP)

  • Oversee and manage approved student support plan spending through: Scheduling and monitoring assessments, appointments, contracted professional services, and external programs

  • Purchasing approved IE resources, and SLP Encom curriculum purchases

  • Connect with the student & primary home educator a minimum of four times a year (initial, Term 1, Term 2, and final), through in-person visits whenever possible.

  • Gather evidence of progress towards IEP goals, with and from the IEP team

  • Evaluate and report progress within the IEP at each report card term.

  • Keep records and document progress as required by HCOS and the Ministry of Education.

  • Become proficient at IE-specific technology and software programs.
