Student Mental Health Day (Livestream)

The ACSI Student Activities Program seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance by enhancing the academic and fine arts education program of the Christian school. It provides opportunity for the practical application and development of skills necessary for confident Christian leadership. Each activity is planned to impact the educational and spiritual growth of each student, encouraging them to be a testimony to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each event also seeks to provide opportunity for Christian fellowship and positive interaction between students and teachers of participating schools.


LIVESTREAMING ACROSS WESTERN PROVINCES

This livestream event is for all schools with grades 6–12 students across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

This is a sponsored event, therefore it is FREE for your school to participate. Registering your school will include access to livestreaming, student activities during the livestream event, and recordings from the Mental Health Day to access afterwards.

Schedules per time zones is as follows:

  • 8:30–11:30am (PDT)

  • 9:30am–12:30pm (MDT)

  • 9:30am–12:30pm (CST)

  • 10:30am–1:30pm (CDT)

THEME: Building Life–Long Resilience

Our speaker, Katy Kwon, will provide practical tools on building life-long resilience skills to help students navigate through life’s peaks and valleys from a biblical worldview.

Theme Verse:
“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” [Romans 5:3–5]

Katy Kwon graduated from Trinity Western University with a MA in Counselling Psychology and attends Jericho Ridge Community Church. Katy lives in Langley, BC with her husband and three young boys. She desires To use her knowledge of mental health to strengthen the church around her.


Session Topics

Session 1: Who’s Life is This? My Locus of Control
An invitation for students to be engaged with their own mental health journey.

Session 2: Building Resilience
Debriefing from the school group activity time and examining resilience building factors.

Session 3: I Am Not a Teacup
Illumination of Romans 5:3–5 and the connection to the mental health concept of “anti–fragile.”
